FAQs

How do I apply to Dovercourt Housing Cooperative?

How long will it take to process my application?

  • It takes about 1-3 months to go through the whole application process from dropping off your application with credit check cheques to receiving approval and notification that you’ve been placed on the waiting list.

What can I expect at the interview?

  • At the interview, a team of 2 or 3 members from the Membership Committee will assess your understanding of co-op living and principles.   We use the interview to determine whether we feel you will be a contributing member of the community.   A series of simple questions will be asked of all applicants and your answers are recorded so that the Board of Directors can review them.  The interview is also an opportunity for you to ask any questions you might have and for you to get to know us better.  We promise to be friendly and welcoming!

How will I know the results of my application?

  • Upon approval or denial of your application by the Board of Directors, you will be informed by mail as to whether or not you have been placed on our waiting list.

When will I be offered a unit, if my application for membership is successful?

  • If approved for membership, your name will be placed on our waiting list.  When a unit becomes available we consult our waiting list and contact people by order of application date.  You have two chances to turn down an offer before your name is removed from our waiting list.  You will have 2 months notice that a unit is available.  Our current members must give 70 days notice and we use those extra 10 days before the end of the month to show and fill the unit.   This means that those on the waiting list should expect to get between 69 and 60 days notice that they will be moving into Dovercourt Housing Cooperative.    At this time, those on the waiting list wait between 2 years and 1 month to be offered a unit.

What are your housing charges?

  • Our current housing charges are $990 for a one bedroom unit, $1079 for a two bedroom unit, $1153 for a three bedroom unit, and $1242 for a four bedroom unit.  This represents a significantly lower than average cost for housing in this neighbourhood.
